SNOWSHOEING IN THE BEAVER VALLEY

View of the Niagara Escarpment from the Beaver Valley side.

The side trail of 3.5 km. along a stream and cedar grove  joined the main Bruce Trail.

These ruins look like they were a barn foundation.

Calla Lily update.  I don't see any sign of a bloom yet!

NO FORSYTHIA BRANCHES

The rabbits have done a lot of damage this winter.  I won't have any branches to force indoors this year.

The calla lily bulbs continue to do well.

This is the only bloom.

WINTERING A GERANIUM

These Tango geraniums were so brilliant in colour this summer that I decided to try to over winter them.  There is promise of a repeated perforance.

The calla lillies growth over only one week!

SNOWSHOEING THE BRUCE TRAIL

The Bruce Trail is the oldest and longest  marked hiking trail in Canada.  The trail is along the Niagara Escarpment from Niagara to Tobermory.  It is 800 km long, with over 300 km of side trails.  This side trail I snowshoed recently leads to the highest point of the trail.

The blue marker indicates a side trail.  (white markers indicate the main trail).  The sign marks the highest point of the trail. (543 metres)

WINTER SOW SEEDS

http://www.wintersown.org/ Sowing seeds in winter.....always willing to try something new.  Great potential to be rewarded.

With gift certificates in hand, I am working on my order!  I am focusing on attracting pollinators to the garden this year.

SNOW-COVERED GARDENS

to document and to remind me in May when all is new again.

The back gardens leave lots of room to experiment.

There IS a front garden out to the sidewalk.

SIGN OF LIFE AT LAST!

After five weeks of waiting, the Calla Lily is finally showing life.  This is my first attempt with these bulbs and I am looking forward to see the results.

It won't be long before I start potting the Canna Lillies to get a head start on the growing season.  They take so long to mature if planted directly in the garden here.  I don't mind having them all around my sunny windows for several weeks.

First wildlife shot with new camera!

On my drive home from town, I spotted a wild turkey in a tree.  He did fly away, but I was not discouraged.  I just pointed the camera and this is what I got.  I'm going to be ready when I see all those birds in the sunflowers this summer and the hummingbirds at the feeder!
